يسلّط هذا الكتاب الضوء على المشهد الثقافي في المملكة العربية السعودية، وبالتحديد الأندية الأدبية من النشأة حتى إحداث الأثر الثقافي المتوقع منها (الوعي) والكتاب في مضمونه دراسة إستطلاعية توجهت إلى المثقفين السعوديين والمقيمين، ثم إلى المؤسسات الثقافية (الأندية الأدبية) وقد بلغ عددها بحسب المؤلف (16) نادياً ، أما عدد المثقفين الذين توجهت إليهم الأسئلة (500) مثقف ومثقفة، لم يجب منهم سوى (150) ... وبعد الإطلاع على إجابات المثقفين والأندية الأدبية في الإستطلاعين الموجهين إلى الطرفين، وبعد مناقشة المؤلف نتائج الإجابات توصلت الدراسة "إلى أن أثر الأندية الأدبية في تشكيل الوعي الثقافي محدود، بمحدداتها التي ارتضتها في حراكها الثقافي ، ولزومها فكرة واحدة لم تخرج منها إلى غيرها، فظلت أسيرة الطيفية، وأسيرة الهوى النخبوي الذي أقصاها زمناً طويلاً عن الساحة الإجتماعية، فالنخبوية مطلب للأدب حتى يظل في منزلته العالية، لكن توسيع قاعدة النخبوية يحتاج إلى حراك ذكي في استقطاب العناصر التي توسّع قاعدة الأدب الفصيح، في ظل المد الشعبي المتزايد في شتى الإتجاهات الإجتماعية ..." كما يوضح المؤلف أبرز معوقات تاثير الأندية الأدبية في تشكيل الوعي الثقافي... ويقدم توصيات يتوجه بها إلى المثقفين، وإلى الأندية الأدبية، وإلى وزارة الثقافة والإعلام.
