هذا الكتاب إن الطفولة بمراحلها العمرية وخصائص كل مرحلة من هذه المراحل هي سلسلة مترابطة ومتداخلة تفضي حلقاتها لبعضها، وتشكل في مجموعها حزمة ملتحمة إذا تأثرت حلقة من حلقاتها ضعفت بقية الحلقات. ولذلك فالتربية والتنشئة الاجتماعية تؤسسان من البداية لقاعدة يرتكز عليها الطفل ويستقيم ويتطلع ويسير، ويكون ذلك في البدء بعون كامل ومطلق، ثم رويداً رويداً يتحرر من العون إلى أن يصل إلى مرحلة الاعتماد الكامل على نفسه من حيث الحركة والدخول فى أنشطة اجتماعية، يقدم من خلالها نفسه لكل جديد يقابله.
واتصالاً مع هذا نقول إن بامتلاك المجتمع لرؤية واضحة في التعامل مع الطفولة وتنميتها ورعايتها، يمتلك الحاضر والمستقبل. فالطفل اليوم هو الشاب غداً والرجل القائد بعد غد، والمرجعية فى ذات الوقت أو الوقت الذى يليه ومن هنا يمكننا القول إن المجتمع الذى يخلو من رؤية لكيفية التعامل مع الطفولة وتنميتها ورعايتها لا يملك رؤية للمستقبل ولا يملك معاني حقيقية للحياة. فهو يعيش لمجرد العيش، ويمارس في الوقت ذاته تعذيباً للذات ويضع حاضره ومستقبله في مهب الريح تتقاذفه ويطير معها في فضاءات فارغة ويتعرض لكثير من الأهوال والمفاجآت غير السارة.
