إن الأخلاق، والفضائل، والمكارم، وحسن الأدب، موضوعٌ كان محطَّ إهتمام المفكّرين والفلاسفة والعلماء والأدباء وذوي الأقلام الراقية، بالإضافة إلى كونه رُكناً هاماً من أركان الأديان السماوية، والشرائع الوضعيّة، فما من نبيّ ولا مفكّر ولا مُصْلح ولا معلّم، إلا وكان داعيةً إلى مكارم الاخلاق، والتحلّي بالفضائل.
ولأجل هذا، تناول هذا الكتاب دعاء الإمام زين العابدين عليّ بن الحسين عليهما السلام المُسمَّى بدعاء "مكارم الأخلاق" الوارد في زبور آل محمد "الصحيفة السجَّادية" حيث يتناول الإمام عليه السلام من خلال الدعاء مسألة تقويم النفس الأمَّارة بالسوء - "إلاَّ رحمَ ربِّي" وتخليتها من الرذائل والصفات السيئة، وتحليتها بالفضائل الحسنة ومكارم الأخلاق اللازمة لتكامل النفس والترقي بها في درجات القرب من الله سبحانه وتعالى.
وذلك لأهمية الدعاء في تربية الإنسان من الداخل، والإيحاء له بكل المعاني الخيِّرة، فالدعاء ليس بالعبادة الروحية المجرّدة فحسب... بل هو إنَّما مرتبط بالحياة والفكر والسلوك من قريب أو بعيد... وهكذا يساهم الدعاء في أن يجعل من أجواء الروح، طريقاً لتهذيب وتطهير المادة... وهو بالتالي، شفاء من كل الأمراض النفسية والعلل الروحية.
