في دراسته هذه، يبحث السيد حسين إسماعيل الصدر عن (أسرار الكون في الكتب السماوية) وذلك من خلال تقديمه "دراسة مقارنة موضوعية بين الكتب المقدسة والعلم الحديث" ، وعلى هذا، تنهض الدراسة على عدة تساؤلات يطرحها المؤلف ومنها: هل أشار القرآن والكتاب المقدس إلى حقائق وإشارات علمية؟. هل اختلف العلم القديم عن العلم الحديث فيما يختص بالسماء والأرض؟ ما هو الجديد الذي أتى به القرآن الكريم بالنسبة للسماوات والأرض وهل وافق العلم الحديث؛ وهل يتفق القرآن مع الكتاب المقدس في ذلك أم يختلف عنه؟
وللإجابة على هذه الأسئلة وغيرها، ومعرفة ما أتى به العلم الحديث بالنسبة لحركة الأفلاك والسماوات؛ وبيان القوانين العلمية التي تحكم حركة الكون وأشار إليها القرآن الكريم والكتاب المقدس، استخدم المؤلف المنهج التاريخي التحليلي النقدي المقارن، بعد الإشارة إلى الآيات القرآنية ومواضعها في المصحف، ورد نصوص الكتاب المقدس إلى مواضعها أيضاً، وتخريج الأحاديث النبوية الشريفة الدالة، وعزو الأقوال والنصوص إلى مصادرها وتوثيقها من الكتب الأصلية.
وعليه، اشتملت الدراسة على أربعة فصول حاول من خلالها الربط بين الكتب المقدسة والعلم الحديث، والبحث عن موقع الإنسان بين الكتب المقدسة والنظريات العلمية، كما تناولت الدراسة عرضاً لنظرية التطور ومناقشتها مناقشة علمية، ووصف القرآن الكريم والكتاب المقدس لخلق الإنسان، ودوره المنوط به ... ومسائل أخرى ذات صلة.
