هذا وقد آثر المؤلف أن يسمى هذا الكتاب تهذيب النفس لأنه يسمو بقارئه إلى مدارج الصلاح والفلاح، وعمد إلى تقسيمه إلى قسمين: مواعظ أخلاقية واجتماعية، مواعظ في التقوى وتربية النفس.
