يشكل العنوان "النيرفانا... أحياناً مغلقة" بطاقة تعريفية، وهوية للنص عند عبد الله العتبي، يوجه من خلاله القارئ لتلمس الخيط السري بين العنوان والمكونات الحكائية، وبه يدرك يفية إشتغال الذهن السردي عند العتبي، وهو في خضم خلفه الإبداعي للسؤال مما يجعل الكائن الحي شيئاً مؤجلاً وإنساناً مع وقف التنفيذ؟...
وللإجابة عن هذا السؤال يسير المؤلف في تفسير سلوك الشخصيات في ضوء التحليل النفسي، حيث تحمل كل قصة إسقاطات معينة، تحيل إلى عالم الشخصية وشؤونها وشجونها ما يجعل السرد مزيجاً من الإعترافات الذاتية والإنطباعات المغلفة بقالب سردي يسهم في تظهير كل حكاية، والكاتب بعمله هذا يعبّر عن تمكن واضح في مقاربة الذات والمجتمع بفن القصة.
ففي القصة المعنونة "جياع... كسقط المتاع" تعبير حيّ عن الإستغلال الذي يتعرض له عمال المزارع من قبل تجار المزارع وكأن عهد الإقطاع لم ينثر.
يطالعنا الكاتب بمشهد حافلات تنقل العمال للحقول المجارة في موعد حصاد القطن "لا يوجد أفضل من أيادي الجياع، فكروش المُلاّك تمتلئ بما تجنيه أيادينا، نعم وتبقى بطوننا جائعة"... حتى الإنسان لا قيمة له عند هؤلاء "أرجوك توقف، لقد سقط أخي من الشاحنة، أرجوك توقف".
أما في قصد "أوراق متهالكة" علاقة زوجية فاشلة تنتج أجمل ما صنعه بطل الحكاية في حياته "مريم" يكتب اباها وصية في ظرف كُتب عليه "لا يفتح إلا بعد موتي"... وفي قصة "عود أراك" متهم بلا ذنب يتعرض للتعذيب من قبل رجل أمن وشيخ دين، وقصة إجتماعية بعنوان "منطقة في جوار الفردوس" عن مأساة أطفال البدون في منطقة الصليبية محرومون من دخول المدارس... وقصص أخرى.
يضم الكتاب عشرة قصص قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1-جياع... كسقط المتاع، 2-خطأ معماري، 3-عُوْدُ أراكِ"، 4-صراع الفضيلة، 5-نزوة ساق مقطوعة، 6-أوراق متهالكة، 7-منطقة منزوعة الهدوء، 8-تمتمات ذاكرة، 9-منطقة في جوار الفردوس، 10-بطعم النكبة.
