إن المتفحص للبيئة يجد انها هي التي تشكل المثيرات الأساسية للمتعلمين، فالبيئة بما تحتويه من جبال، وبحار، وأنهار سواء العذبة منها أو المالحة، وما بها من تغيرات مناخية، وفصول السنة، والشمس، والقمر، والكواكب التي تسير بإحكام "صنع الله الذي أحسن كل شيء"... هي التي تصنع خبرات المتعلمين ومهاراتهم ووجدانهم: ولذلك كان على المتعلم أن يفهم العلاقات المختلفة في البيئة والتوازن البيئي الذي خلق به الحق سبحانه وتعالى هذا الكون، وأن ما أصاب البيئة من مشكلات ما هو إلا إخلال بالتوازن البيئي وتعد على النظام البيئي نتج عن نشاطات الإنسان على الأرض وفي الجو، وعلى الإنسان أن يعمل على إعادة هذه التوازانات البيئية، والحد من النشاطات المدمرة للبيئة.
وينطوى هذا الكتاب على ثمانية فصول تستعرض المفاهيم الأساسية في البيئة، والعديد من المشكلات البيئية، وبعض الطرق المعالجات لها، ويأتي الفصل الأول ليعرض مفهوم البيئة، والنظام البيئي ومكوناته، أما الفصل الثاني فيوضح مفهوم تلوث الهواء، والغلاف الجوي وطبقاته المختلفة، وفي الفصل الثالث يحدثنا الكتاب عن أهمية الماء ومصادر تلوثه، وبعض المعالجات لهذه الملوثات.
أما الفصل الرابع فيستعرض التلوث الناشئ عن المخلفات السائلة والصلبة، وطرق معالجته، ويأتي الفصل الخامس ليحدثنا عن المبيدات وأثرها في تلويث البيئة، وفي الفصل السادس إستعرض لتلوث البيئة بالمواد المشعة، والحروب وآثارها في إحداث التلوث البيئي، ويتطرق الفصل السابع إلى إستعراض الأغذية وعلاقاتها بالتلوث البيئي، وأخيراً يحدثنا الفصل الثامن من الكتاب عن التلوث الضوضائي.
لذلك قدم المؤلف هذا الكتاب لطلاب في كليات التربية والزراعة والعلوم وفي كل المؤسسات التعليمية التي تعنى بدراسة البيئة.
