جاء الكتاب في تسعة فصول: تضمن الأول منها مفاهيم أساسية في ميدان المناهج وطرق التدريس، وتعرض الثاني لأنواع المناهج ومستوياتها، واهتم الثالث بمفهوم التدريس بوصفه نظاماً، وذكر الرابع مهارات التدريس وعرض الخامس مهارات تنفيذ عملية التدريس وركز السادس على مهارات إدارة عملية التدريس مثل توجيه وإستقبال الأسئلة الصعبة وغيرها. وبحث السابع أساليب تقويم التدريس، وركز الثامن على إعداد المعلم ونموه المهني ويأتي الفصل التاسع والأخير في "كيف ينفذ الطالب المعلم التربية العملية من خلال عرض لمفهوم التربية العملية وأهدافها، وإجراءاتها، ومهام الطالب المعلم خلال التربية العملية ثم تقويم الطالب المعلم في التربية العملية".
