لقد أدرك التربويون وعلماء النفس أهمية مرحلة رياض الأطفال، فأطفال اليوم هم رجال ونساء الغد، وبهم سوف تنهض الأمم وتزدهر الحضارات أو قد تتخلف، لذا كان من واجبنا إعداد أطفالنا الصغار إعداداً جيداً يسمح لهم بمواجهة المتغيرات المتسارعة حتى لا تتخلف عن ركب الحضارة والتقدم ونعيد لأمتنا العربية أمجادها السالفة.
وهذا الكتاب هو لبنة متواضعة في بناء عظيم صنعه أساتذة وزملاء لنا في مجال رياض الأطفال، فهذا الكتاب لا يقتصر على العاملين في مجال رياض الأطفال فقط، بل إلى كل أم وأب وكل مربي بل وكل المهتمين والعاملين في هذا المجال.
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب في ثمانية فصول، حيث تناول الفصل الأول مفهوم المنهج بشكل عام وتطور هذا المفهوم، ثم الفصل الثاني ويحتوي على مناهج رياض الأطفال بشكل خاص، وخصائص مناهج رياض الأطفال، ومصادر بناء مناهج رياض الأطفال، ثم تنتقل إلى الفصل الثالث الذي يشمل الأسس السيكولوجية والفلسفية لبناء مناهج رياض الأطفال.
أما الفصل الرابع فيشمل عناصر مناهج رياض الأطفال وتتضمن الأهداف والمحتوى، وطرق تقديم الأنشطة المناسبة للأطفال، والوسائل الشائعة في رياض الأطفال، أما الفصل الخامس فيتكلم عن اللعب كمدخل لبناء مناهج رياض الأطفال، وفي الفصل الخامس فيتكلم عن اللعب كمدخل لبناء مناهج رياض الأطفال.
وفي الفصل السادس عرض للخبرات المتكاملة في مناهج رياض الأطفال وأمثلة لبعض البرامج، ثم يأتي الفصل السابع فيضم نماذج للبرامج المقدمة لأطفال الروضة وتعرضنا لكل من برنامج (ماريا منتسوري) وبرنامج التعليم للتفكير.
وأخيراً الفصل الثامن فهو عبارة عن نموذج لوحدة في الخبرات المتكاملة بعنوان السوق المجمع (السوبر ماركت) مقدمة بصورة تفصيلية، وبذلك تكون خاتمة الكتاب.
