يدرس كتاب النمو السكاني ومتطلبات التنمية في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي للكاتب محمود مراد واقع السكان في دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية، وتوزيعهم، والقوة العاملة، والبطالة ولاسيما البطالة الجندرية، وعلاقة ذلك كلّه بمستويات التعليم.
وقد أظهرت الدراسة نموًّا ملحوظًا في السلاسل المتعلقة بالحراك السكاني كلّها، وخصوصًا في أمد الحياة عند الولادة بالنسبة إلى المرأة، وبيّنت وجود فجوة جندرية في القوة العاملة من جهة، وتأثّر البطالة بالمستوى التعليمي لكلا الجنسين في كل دولة من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي من جهة أخرى. كما بحثت الدراسة العلاقة بين الناتج المحلي الإجمالي ونصيب الفرد في القوة العاملة، ومعدلات النمو السنوي لكليهما. وأكد الكتاب أنّ القوة العاملة ستبلغ نحو 31 مليون عامل عام 2020، بعد أن كانت نحو 22 مليونًا عام 2012. أمّا الناتج المحلي، فهو سيترفع إلى أكثر من ثلاثة تريليونات دولار؛ ما يجعل نصيب الفرد من هذا الناتج يصل إلى 105 آلاف دولار، في حين ستستقر البطالة على معدل 3 في المئة تقريبًا، وهذه الأرقام شديدة الأهمية؛ فحتى أكثر المجتمعات الصناعية الغربية تقدُّمًا لم تصل إليها.
