إن المهمة التي عزم، قبل عشر سنوات، علماء إيرانيون ونمساويون على الاضطلاع بها تزداد إلحاحاً. فقد اجتمعوا من 15 إلى 17 كانون الثاني سنة 1995 في طهران ليتداولوا معاً، في نطاق هذا التشاور، حول إمكانيات التخطيط لمسيرة حوار طويلة المدى. وتم قرارهم على أن ينطلقوا معاً، ثم بعد نشر وقائع الندوات المتتالية في اللغتين الفارسية والألمانية أن يصمموا للخطوات اللاحقة.
إن الندوة الإيرانية-النمساوية الثالثة (2003) التي ننشر أعمالها في هذا الكتاب، تستأنف العمل في إطار الموضوع العام المقرر وهو "العدل"، وتلتحق بأعمال الندوتين السابقتين (1996 و1999). فبعد أن ألقينا نظرة عامة على معنى العدل في تراث كلا الدينين، المسيحية والإسلام، وبعد أن توجهنا إلى البحث في العلاقة العملية بين القيم والحقوق والواجبات التي هي عناصر أساسية لنظام عادل للعيش المشترك، عكفنا في اللقاء المشترك الثالث على البحث في العلاقة بين السلام والعدل وتفحصنا ما يهددهما حالياً في عصرنا.
