مما لا شك فيه أن الحوار بين الاديان قد أضحى أحد العناوين أو الموضوعات الرئيسية التى يجرى طرحها بكثافة وقوة متعاظمة فى الآونة الأخيرة بين الكثير من الهيئات والأفراد على اختلاف انتمائاتهم الدينية بل والثقافية فى مختلف أنحاء العالم . وليس على أحد أهمية أى لون من ألوان الحوار البناء بين الأديان ، وإمكانية مساهمته الفعالة فى تدعيم ثقافة السلام والتفاهم المتبادل والتسامح وروح المصالحة بين مختلف المؤمنين بالأديان.
إلا أنه عند الحديث عن الحوار بين الأديان ينبغى ألا يغيب عن انتباهنا أن الحوار بين الأديان موضوع متشعب، وقد تتفرع آماده إلى ما لا نهاية، فمن المفترض أن الحوار له أساليبه ومفرادته ومقاصده وملابساته وأشكاله وألوانه، بل وشروطه ومتطلباته وركائزه وغير ذلك من أمور. وحيث أن التعرف على الآخر يعد ركيزة أساسية من ركائز أى حوار موضوعى بناء فإنى على اعتقاد بأنه لا يمكن القيام بأى حوار جاد وفعال بين الأديان بدون المعرفة والعلم، أى بدون أن يتعرف اتباع كل ديانة على اتباع الديانات الأخرى معرفة موضوعية سليمة وأمينة وغير مغرضة.
