هذا قاموس مصطلحي تفسيري يأتي خلاصة خبرة شخصية للمؤلف، واحتكاك مباشر تخصص بفنون المسرح ومراجعها الأصلية، وهو لا نظير له في لغة أخرى وقد يكون هناك ما يفوقه، ولكن ليس هناك شبيهه، حيث أن مؤلفه قد آثر فيه استخدام المنهج المتمثل في الالتزامات التالية حسب الأفضلية:
أولاً: الترجمة: ترجمة الكلمة الأجنبية إلى العربية مع استشارة قواميس العربية، وقواميس Etymology الإنجليزية والفرنسية التي تبحث في مصادر الكلمات وتطورات معانيها -مع الميل الشديد إلى تفضيل ما هو جار فعلاً في محيطنا المسرحي، سواء في كتب النقد الدرامي، أو على ألسنة العاملين في الدور المسرحية.
ثانياً: الاستنباط من الشكل أو المعنى أو الوظيفة: أي تصور خصائص ووظائف الشيء موضوع الاصطلاح، ثم محاولة استيلاد معنى يمكن أن يدل على الشيء كله. فمثلاً، هناك ستارة تشبه الصدفة، فلا مانع استعمال هذه الصفة الدائمة الغالبة لنقول: "ستارة صدفية".
ثالثاً: تفصيح العامية: إذا كانت اللغة العامية قادرة على المد بالمصطلح، فإنها -كمصدر- خير من اللجوء إلى تعريب الكلمة الأجنبية، مادامت الفصحى عاجزة عن الإتيان بالقرين الصحيح، فالعامية تحوى كلمات لأدوات التنفيذ الديكوري أصبحت عامة، ولا بأس من تفصيحها بدلاً من الفرار منها واصطناع كلمات فصيحة أخرى وزجها إلى الميدان لتزاحم كلمات حية وقوية بالاستخدام اليومي.
رابعاً: التعريب: وهو نهج شرعي انتهجه قدماء العرب. وإن لم يتوسعوا فيه. فإنهم اضطروا -تحت ضغط الحادة في بعض الأحيان- إلى تعريب -في شيء من الحذر- إلى تعريب ألفاظ ثقيلة المبنى والمخرج.
