هذا القاموس يسلط الضوء على عشرات المسرحيات العالمية وعلى عشرات المؤلفين المسرحيين. وقد اعتمد المترجم، لدى إعداد هذا العمل، أكثر من مرجع أولها موسوعة الدراما التي وضعها غاسنر وكون ونعني بها The Reader`s Encyclopedia of World Drama Casner and Quinn. وكذلك كتاب الأدب المعاصر للعالم الغربي الذي وضعه دونالد هنري دلينثيل دونز (Contemporary Literature of the Western World, Donald Henry and Lenthiel Downs) وغيرهما من المراجع التي تعني بالدراما تاريخاً ونقداً. وهذا القاموس المسرحي، إلى جانب أنه يلخص الكثير من الأعمال المسرحية ويسلط الأضواء على حياة المؤلف المسرحي وأعماله، فإنه يتضمن كذلك رصداً لعدد كبير من المسرحيات المترجمة إلى اللغة العربية لتعريف القارئ بطائفة كبيرة من هذه المسرحيات المعربة. ولما كانت بعض هذه الترجمات غير دقيقة أو أنها حرفية لا طعم لها ولا لون فقد ترجمت ترجمة جديدة هي-في رأينا-أقرب إلى الصواب والدلالة الأصيلة. وأخيراً، ومهما يكن من أمر، فعزاؤنا في نشر هذا القاموس المسرحي أنه العمل الأول من نوعه في اللغة العربية
