إن الخطاب السياسي للأسد كان محوراً اساسياً في سياق الأزمة، ثمّ الحرب في سوريا، انقسم العالم بشأنه ما بين داعٍ لرجيل الرئيس ومناهض لكل خطاباته، وما بين مناصرين وحلفاء وعاملين على بقائه عنواناً لإنتصار محور.
هذه الأهمية الإستثنائية للأسد ولخطابه والوقوف على ثوابته والمتحولات، وإلى المقارنة بين: ما كان عليه في سنوات ما قبل الحرب، وبين ما صار عليه في زمن المدافع والدماء والدمار والدموع، ذلك أنّه قلّما انقسم العالم حول شخص بقدر إنقسامه بشأن الأسد في مرحلة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، وقلّما وصل العالم إلى مشارف الحرب الباردة بسبب دولة مركزية كما كان الشأن بالنسبة إلى سوريا منذ مطلع العشرية الثانية من هذا القرن.
إنّ اختيار خطاب الأسد موضوعاً لبحثنا، ينطلق من سعينا لمعرفة هل يحافظ سياسي بمستوى رئيس دولة، على ثوابت خطابه أم لا إذا ما فوجئ بحرب تَفرض عليه مجموعة من المتغيرات الإيديولوجية والعقائدية؟ ففي قراءتنا لكل الخطابات الرسمية والمقابلات المتلفزة التي ألقاها الأسد أو أجريت معه، وجدنا أنّ القضايا الخلافية الجوهرية بقيت خطاً بيانيّاً متصاعداً، ولم تغرب، تقريباً، عن أي خطاب أو مقابلة، منها مثلاً: رفض الإخوان المسلمين، أو إعتبار معارضة الخارج عميلة للغرب، أو التأكيد على الحوار الداخلي مع أطياف المجتمع كافة، أو التركيز على أنّ سوريا تتعرَّض لمؤامرة إقليمية دولية، أو أنَّ الإرهاب هو آفة كبرى يجب محاربتها، وعلى أنّ الجيش أساسي في معركة الحسم.
وفي الكتاب، وصف لخطاب الأسد وتطوره وللبيئة والعوامل الخارجية والداخلية التي أثرت فيه، وبين دفّتيه معلومات دقيقة بعضها سرّي، وثائق جديدة، كما يتضمن أيضاً أفكاراً ودراسات نظرية وفكرية حول الخطاب وتطوره عند العرب، وحول كيفية تحليله في المدارس الغربية، لأننا بغير العلم، لن ندرك، مطلقاً، شيئاً من الحقيقة، وإنما تتحول إلى مجرد "أبواق" هذا يمدح ويشكر وذاك يقدح ويلعن، مثل هؤلاء هم أحد أسباب البلاء والفتن والتغرير بالناس.
