هذا الكتاب أحد الكتب التي تهتم بالسيرة الخاصة برموز شكلت تاريخ مصر عسكرياً.. ونظراً لأننا كثيراً ما نهتم بإحياء ذكرى أبطالنا وكتابة سيرتهم بعد وفاتهم بالإضافة لندرة ما نجده في المكتبات العربية عن تاريخ هؤلاء الرجال.. فإنني أسعى لتسجيل ذكرياتهم وشهادتهم على الأحداث التي عاصروها... واللواء حسن الجريدلي سكرتير عام وزارة الحربية أثناء حرب أكتوبر ورئيس هيئة عمليات القوات المسلحة الأسبق-أحد هؤلاء الرموز التي عاصرت أحداث كثيرة وكان له دور بارز في الحروب المعاصرة التي خاضتها مصر والعرب ابتداء من حرب 48 وحتى حرب أكتوبر المجيدة وانتهاء بالمعركة التفاوضية التي خاضتها مصر منذ لحظة وقف إطلاق النار في 28 أكتوبر 73 وحتى استعادة طابا في 19 مارس 1989.
وعلى هذا فإنني حاولت تسجيل رحلته الطويلة والثرية داخل القوات المسلحة والتي امتدت لما يقرب من 40 عاماً.... كان شاهداً ومشاركاً فيها لأحداث كثيرة وارتبط بحكم عمله ومنصبه بأصحاب القرار وكثير من الشخصيات الهامة. وبما أنه عاصر أربع جولات من الصراع العربي الإسرائيلي فإنه يلقي ضوء على هذه الحروب وأسبابها ويوضح بكل أمانة أسباب الهزيمة أو النصر والدروس المستفادة من كل جولة، أحداث كثيرة يرويها لنا شاهد عيان.. كل هذا وأكثر ستجده عزيزي القارئ في هذا الكتاب الذي يقدم وجبة دسمة لكنها سريعة الفهم والهضم فهو بحق مرجع تاريخي وتأريخي وإنساني يستفيد منه الآخرون وأنا أولهم.
