في كتابنا هذا، نقدم منهجاً جديداً لا يزال نادر الوجود والتطبيق في جامعاتنا العربية وخصوصاً المشرقية منها، وذلك بغية تحليل الخطاب ليس من زاوية عدد مفرداته (كما كان شأن التحليل الكمي) ولا من منطلق القيم التي يتضمنها (التحليل النوعي)، وإنما من خلال الأفعال التي يرغب الخطيب من الذين يوجّه إليهم خطابه أن يقوموا بها أو يحجموا عنها.
إنه المنهج "البراغماتي" اللساني الذي ترجمه بعض العرب بــ "التداولي"، ونقترح له تعريباً آخر هو "القولفعلية" ذلك أنه يستند إلى مبدأ أن لكل قول فعلاً، وأن هذا الفعل قد يكون وعداً، أو وعيداً أو ترغيباً أو ترهيباً أو إقناعاً أو إرغاماً، وقد اخترنا لتطبيقه حدثاً سياسياً عربياً يرتبط بالعلاقات الأميركية السعودية، وما تخلّلها من خطاب سياسي لكل من الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب والعاهل السعودي الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز.
