تعد مدينة نابلس واحدة من أهم المدن الفلسطينية التي لعبت دوراً مهماً في حركة تاريخ فلسطين المعاصر خلال الإنتداب البريطاني 1920- 1948م، بما فيها عام 1936م، وهو ما تؤكده وثائق المدينة المحلية وفي مقدمتها الصحف وسجلات وملفات بلدية نابلس وسجلات المحكمة الشرعية، وكتب المذكرات والجولات المحلية والمقالات الشخصية، وما ينتشر في جنباتها من شواهد عمرانية، وما تحمله من نقوش كالمساجد والأسبلة والمقامات والخانات والصبانات والترب والجبانات، وبات معروفاً لدى أبناء المدينة في الداخل والخارج والمناطق المجاورة وأهل الإختصاص أن نابلس عاصمة الثورة الفلسطينة الكبرى عام 1936م، وإذا ما تداول حضور المقاومة الفلسطينية في وجه الإنتداب والحركة الصهيونية فلا يمكن أن تغيب نابلس عن هذا الحضور الفعّال والقوي.
اكتسبت نابلس أهميتها من موقعها الجغرافي الهام الذي أضفى عليها صبغة خاصة ميزتها عن بقية المدن الفلسطينية، ومن وضعها الإقتصادي النشط كوسيط تجاري وحرفي بين المقاطعات الفلسطينية المحيطة والضفة الشرقية لنهر الأردن من جهة والأسواق المحلية والإقليمية والعالمية من جهة أخرى فكان لها دورها في إستيعاب إنتاجها الزراعي والرعوي وتصنيفه وتزويدها بإحتياجاتها من السلع والخدمات، فصنعت من زيت الزيتون الصابون ونالت شهرة لا ينافسها فيها منافس، وفي ضوء ذلك ورد في ذكرها العديد من مؤلفات العرب والمسلمين فامتدحوها ووصفوا جمالها وحسن مناخها وكثرة خيراتها، ووفرة مياهها، وحتى أن بعضهم تغنى بها.
ونتيجة لأهمية الثورة وإتساع حجم الفعاليات الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والسياسية والعسكرية خلال الستة شهور وما أعقبها من تطورات وتحولات إجتماعية وإقتصادية وسياسية وعسكرية خلال الستة شهور، وبالتالي صعوبة الإحاطة بتفاصيلها من خلال الدراسات العامة التي تناولت حركة النضال الوطني الفلسطيني فقد وقع الإختيار على مدينة نابلس كشريحة محددة للدراسة والبحث، وذلك لدراسة أوضاعها الإجتماعية والإقتصادية خلال فعاليات الثورة ووضعها تحت عنوان (الحياة الإجتماعية والإقتصادية في مدينة نابلس خلال الثورة الفلسطينية الكبرى عام 1936م)؛ واقتضى البحث أن يكون في خمسة فصول.
