تعدّ اليوميات والمذّكرات أكثر أنواع المصادر إيضاحاً للوقائع، إذ قد يلجأ الكاتب إلى تسجيل تفاصيل دقيقة عن الأحداث الخاصة في حياته اليومية، وتتضمّن بصمات الزمن الذي عاش فيه، فضلاً عن أحداث غيّرت مجرى حياته والظروف العامة...
ويمكن أن يكون الكاتب قد دوّنها تحت وطأة ظروف قاسية وحوادث بالغة، وربّما تشتمل على أسرار أو إنطباعات ذاتية تتوقّف أهميتها على عوامل عديدة، منها: شخصية الكاتب وأسلوبه، ودوره في الأحداث، ومدى إطّلاعه، وإلتزامه بالموضوعية.
وتعتبر اليوميات والمذكّرات مرآة عاكسة للأحوال التي تمرّ فيها المجتمعات الإنسانية، بما تختزنه من وقائع وأوضاع وآمال ومشاعر وتطلّعات.
تحاول هذه الدراسة فهم مسألة العلاقة التي تربط مدينة القدس بمنطقتها وبالداخل الفلسطيني، وتأمل أن توضّح جوانب من تاريخ المدينة بين عامي 1914- 1918، وإعطاء صورة للتعريف بها، وتقديم تحليل إجتماعي منهجي يساهم في تعزيز الدراسات العلمية حول واقع المدينة العربية بشكل عام، ومدينة القدس بشكل خاص، في مرحلة زمنية بالغة الأهمية.
كما تحرص على منطق تحرّي الوقائع، بما يكفل تقديم بحث علمي يسلّط الضوء على مواضيع تهدف إلى إنتاج المعرفة المحفّزة التي تساهم في مسيرة التقدّم العلمي، وتقوم على البحث والتقصّي والمراقبة والتحليل وإستخدام الفرضيات.
