على الرغم من أن الخطاب الشعري السعودي المعاصر حظي بدراسات في مناحٍ شتى، إلا أنه لم تكن هناك جهود مستقلة لدراسة طبيعة الصورة الكونية بعمقها الدلالي وحضورها الفني، مما يجعل اختيار هذا النمط من الدراسة أمراً مهماً لتقصي حدود الظاهرة وإبراز أبعادها الدلالية المختلفة، حيث يُعنى هذا البحث بمستويات تشكيل الصورة الكونية في الشعر السعودي المعاصر، من خلال تتبع التشكيلات الدلالية للعناصر الكونية التي شكّلت ملمحاً بارزاً في تشكيل الصورة الشعرية في النص الشعري المعاصر. وباستقصاء النصوص الشعرية، ودراسة ابعاد الصورة الكونية الفنية والموضوعية ودلالاتها، وفق المعطيات والعوامل التي أدت إلى تشكيلها سيتم ربط الصورة بالتشكيل الدلالي والإيحائي. ومن ثمّ، ربط مستوياتها التشكيلية بالمرجعات الإجتماعية، والجمالية، والسيكولوجية للوصول إلى أبعاد الصورة ودلالتها السياسية، والحضارية، والنفسية، والإجتماعية والأسطورية.
