الجسد من حيث هو نظام الرغبة، هو حقل الحرية، إنه ما ينتزع الوجود الإنساني من الضرورة التي يفتحها نظام الحاجة الذي نسميه بالجسم.
لذلك فالجسد غير ممكن خارج إلتحام الحرية بالرغبة، بل حتى المسافة المتوترة التي تخلقها الرغبة من الآخر المرغوب فيه، أي تلك المسافة التي تسعى من خلالها إلى إستهلاكه وإمتصاصه وإفنائه وفي نفس الوقت الإبقاء عليه في إستقلاله الذاتي، هي المسافة التي يُخلق فيها العالم بكامله.
ومعنى ذلك - بشكل مزدوج - أن الآخر هو إبتكار الرغبة، وأن العالم هو مدى تصريف الحرية التي من دون إلتحامها بالرغبة يستحيل الجسد.
