بعد حربين عالميتين طالت شراستها بلاد العالم المتقدم والمتأخر في كافة قارات العالم، أدرك العالم أنه لابد من وقفة لعدم تكرار المآسي التي أدمت قلب البشرة من قبل، وكان الاتفاق على كيان يجتمع تحت مظلته كافة الدول وشعوب الأمم، يكون له بنوده المنظمة وآلية عمله وميثاقه الذي يحكمه، فكان ميثاق الأمم المتحدة الذي اتفقت عليه كافة الأمم لإنقاذ الأجيال القادمة من ويلات حروب عانى منها الآباء، وهذا الميثاق هو ما يحويه هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه مستعرضاً فصول الميثاق وبنوده وهي: في مقاصد الهيئة ومبادئها، في العضوية، في فروع الهيئة، في الجمعية العامة، في مجلس الأمن، في حل المنازعات حلاً سلمياً، فيما يتخذ من الأعمال في حالات تهديد السلام والإخلال به ووقوع العدوان، في التنظيمات الإقليمية، في التعاون الدولي الإقتصادي والاجتماعي، المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، تصريح يتعلق بالأقاليم غير المتمتعة بالحكم الذاتي، في نظام الوصايا الدولي، في مجلس الوصاية، في محكمة العدل الدولية، في الأمانة، أحكام متنوعة، في تدابير حفظ الأمن في فترة الانتقال، في تعديل الميثاق، في التصديق والتوقيع وذلك فصولاً للمادة الحادية العشرة بعد المائة ليبدأ بعد ذلك المواد المكونة للنظام الأساسي لمحكمة العدل الدولية في فصولها: تنظيم المحكمة، اختصاص المحكمة، في الإجراءات، في الفتاوى والتعديل.
