عن المفكر السعودي محمد سعيد طيّب يتحدث الأستاذ حسين محمد بافقيه في كتابه "تِهامةٌ وطني .." محمد سعيد طيّب والثقافة" ولأن المهمة ليست يسيرة في الكتابة عن قامة وطنية ثقافية بارزة في المملكة العربية السعودية فقد أخذ المؤلف على نفسه بيان جهاد محمد سعيد طيّب في الثقافة، وغايته أن لا يحيد عن شرط النقد والقراء". وكانت النية يقول المؤلف: أن أدعو هذا الكتاب : "بعد نسيان كل شيء" أريد به تلك العبارة التي تعتدّ "الثقافة هي ما يبقى بعد نسيان كل شيء، فمحمد سعيد طيّب الذي اختص هذا الكتاب به، إنما هو "المثقف" الذي أوشك أن تغور ملامحه، من شدة اشتغاله بالشأن السياسي والوطني، فلما أجمعت أمري، سمعته ينشد هذا البيت السائر:
إن تُتهمي فتهامةٌ وطني / أو تنجدي يَكُن الهوى نَجْدُ".
ومن هذا البيت الرائع اقتطف المؤلف عبارة "تهامةٌ وطني" واتخذها عنواناً للكتاب، ليقول من هو محمد سعيد طيّب، المثقف والداعية للإصلاح ، وعليه يكون هذا الكتاب أقرب إلى سيرة ثقافية لجيلٍ ملتزم كان محمد سعيد طيّب واحداً من أبنائه.
عناوين الكتاب: 1- من بطحاء مكة، 2- مدينة تتغير، 3- أحلام قوميّة، 4- من الثقافة إلى السياسة، 5- تِهامة .. سيرة قارىء وحكاية مكتبة، 6- منتدى "الثلوثية" أضعف الإيمان، 7- ذهبُ المعز وسيفه! ، 8- الكلام المباح، 9- عودٌ على بدء.
كأنَّما القَدَرُ كان يكافئ محمَّد سعيد طيِّب، فكان ما يُقْبِل مِنْ عمره تعويضًا عادلًا عمَّا فَرَطَ مِنْه، وما ضاع مِنْ شبابه، فما هي إلَّا سنة أوْ بعض سنة، حتَّى تنادَى جمهرة مِنْ عِلْيَة التُّجَّار إلى إنشاء "شركة تِهامة"، ولَمَّا أَجمعوا أمرهم، وَكَلُوا إليه، عام 1395هـ=1975م، القيام على شؤونها، ومكث النَّاس عَقْدين أوْ يزيدان، لا يذكرون "تِهامة" حتَّى يذكروا محمَّد سعيد طيِّب، وما إنْ يُذْكَر اسمه حتَّى تُذْكَر، فاختير "المناضل السِّياسيّ"، داعية "القوميَّة العربيَّة"، "النَّاصريّ" العنيد قائدًا لهذه الشَّركة العملاقة وعُضْوًا منتدبًا لها، فعرفه التُّجَّار، ورجال المال، وعرفه المثقَّفون والكُتَّاب، كما عَرَفه، مِنْ قَبْلُ، المناضلون، والسِّياسيُّون، ورجال الحُكْم، وضُبَّاط المباحث، وحرس السُّجُون، وأُذِنَ لذلك الشَّابّ المكِّيّ الَّذي أَظَلَّتْه جُدران السِّجْن فلمْ يعرفِ الشَّمس، أن يُولَدَ، مِنْ وقته، في ساحة الخُلْد!
