ظهر كتاب الكينونة والزمان لأوّل مرّة في مطلع عام 1927 ضمن المجلّد الثامن من حوليات الفلسفة والبحث الفينومينولوجي، والتي كانت تُنشر تحت إشراف هوسرل، وفي الوقت نفسه ضمن سحب خاص، ولأنه أحد أشدّ الكتب الفلسفية للقرن العشرين إبتكاراً وخطورة، فهو ما فتى يتحوّل إلى مصدر إلهام أو إلى خصم أساسيّ لأجيال من الفلاسفة والمفكّرين، من سارتر إلى درّيدا، ومن أدورنو إلى هابرماس، وليس من قبيل الصدفة أنّه قد تُرجم إلى أكثر من عشرين لغة في العالم.
ورغم مرور ما يزيد على ثلاثين عاماً على موت هيدغر (1889- 1976)، فإنّ سؤاله عن معنى الكينونة لا زال يُطرح في نضارته الأولى وبحماسة مثيرة.
إنّ تساؤلات هيدغر وبحوثه عن زمانية الكائن في العالم بعامة وماهية العقل الإنساني وتاريخ الحقيقة الذي يستند إليه وهشاشة تصوّراتنا عن الإنسانية، وأزمة حداثة التنوير، وإلتباس جوهر التقنية النابع من تصوّر خطير وغامض للعلاقة بالكائن، وإنسحاب آداب التآلّه من أفق الإنسانية الحالية، والخطر المحدق في بيئة العالم... هي اليوم أطرف وأقوى ما تمتلكه الفلسفة المعاصرة من أدوات تفكير في مشاكلها وفي مستقبلها.
