يعد هذا المؤلف الذي بين يدي القارىء الآن استمراراً لمحاولة هيدغر تبيان أن سؤال الوجود لم يُتناول في تاريخ الفلسفة ولم يُعنَ به أي من الفلاسفة بصورة تامة، كما أن هذا السؤال عينه يفتقد حتى يوم الناس هذا إلى أي طرح حقيقي أو إلى أية إجابة دالّة، لذلك كان لا بد من إعادة طرحه على أساس أن هذا السؤال عينه ذو خصوصية فريدة، لأنه سؤال قمين بأن يمهد لتكوين رؤية متماسكة عن الوجود. من هنا كان لا بد من تلبية المطالب التي تؤدي إلى كشف الآلية التي تقيّض كيفية طرحه بصورة تصحيحية تتناسب مع مسار علم الوجود في أفقه الظاهرياتي، واتساقاً مع هذا التوجه لن يكون الهدف الأولي لـ "هيدغر" في (الوجود والزمان) هو تقديم توضيحات لمسائل ملتبسة تتعلق بهذا السؤال؛ وإنما الهدف هو تحديد معالم ميدان هذا السؤال والأسباب التي تدفع إلى صياغته والدور الرئيس الذي يضطلع به والغاية المنوط به أن يصل إليها، ولذلك لا يمكن فهم هذا المؤلف إلا على أساس هذه التحليلات التي قدمها هيدغر في الوجود والزمان.
