تعلم أنّ الفعل في العربيّة يدلّ على (الحدث) وعلى (زمن) وقوعه، ونعلم أنّه يتميّز بموضوعين مختلفين هما: أنواعه وأحواله؛ ويقسم إلى قسمين رئيسين: الفعل التامّ، والفعل الناقص.
وتعلم، كذلك، أنّ الفعل التامّ يقسم إلى قسمين: متعدٍّ ولازم، وأن المتعدّي يقسم أيضاً إلى قسمين: المعلوم فاعله، والمجهول فاعله، وأنّ أحوال الفعل تكون في الأوضاع التالية:
-الصيغة، وتشمل الفعل الماضي، والفعل المضارع، وفعل الأمر.
-الزمن: ويشمل الفعل الماضي، وفعل المستقبل.
-الوزن: ويشمل الثلاثيّ المجرّد، والثلاثيّ المزيد، والرباعيّ المجرّد والرباعيّ المزيد.
-العلّة: وتشمل الفعل الصحيح، والفعل المعتلّ.
-الإثبات: ويكون مثبتاً، ومنفياً.
-التأكيد: ويكون مؤكّداً وغير مؤكّد.
-الإعراب: ويكون معرباً، ومبنياً.
