لما كانت المناهج المدرسية لا تولي أهمية خاصة لتصريف الأفعال، فينهي الطلاب المرحلة الثانوية دون أن يتقنوا تصريف الأفعال اتقاناً يمكنهم من استخدام جميع الأفعال، وخاصة المعتلة منها، مع الضمائر كافة، في الماضي، والمضارع، والأمر، وفي صيغتي المعلوم والمجهول. ولما كانت المكتبة العربية تخلو، أو تكاد تخلو، من كتاب للتصريف مخصص لطلبة المدارس خصوصاً، ولكتاب العربية عموماً، بخلاف ما يلاحظ في اللغات الأجنبية، وخاصة في الفرنسية. وعليه، جاء هذا الكتاب، عله يسد هذه الثغرة بناية التصانيف العربية، من جهة ويساعد الطرب في استخدام اللغة العربية من جهة أخرى.
وحتى يحقق الكتاب أكبر فائدة للطلاب وللقراء تم تقسيمه إلى قسمين: تضمن الأول جداول تصريفية لسبعين فعلاً اختارها المؤلف بعد دراسة دقيقة لتمثل مصاريف الأفعال العربية كافة. وقسم ثانٍ جعل فيه جدولاً يتضمن حوالي ثمانية آلاف فعل رتبها ترتيباً ألفبائياً، جاعلاً مقابل كلّ فعل منها رقم الجدول التصريفي لفعل آخر صرف في القسم الأول، وله التصريف نفسه للفعل الأول.
