قاموس يضم الأمثال الشعبية التي شاعت على ألسنة العوام في دمشق. يضم الكتاب أكثر من ثلاثة آلاف وخمس مئة مثل مرتبة بحسب حروف المعجم على بدايات الأمثال من الألف إلى الياء. وقد حاول المؤلف فيه استقصاء موضوعه، فجمع هذا القدر ليشمل جميع الأمثال التي أشاعها العامة، في مناحي الحياة التي تهمهم حول موضوع الأسرة وممارسات أفرادها، آباء وأبناء وحفدة وأزواج وأصهار وكنائن، وعن التجارة وما تتعرض لا من أرباح وخسارة، وعن الخير والشر، وعن الأحوال الجوية، وعن الطباع الإنسانية المستحكمة في الخليقة بجوانبها المتعددة إيجابية وسلبية من حب التعاون وصلة الرحم والإشفاق على الضعيف والكرم وبذل النصح للناس. وعكسها من الشك بالناس والكراهية لهم والحض على أذاهم والحث على البخل وعدم المبالاة بالآخرين وتزيين الأنانية وغير ذلك من موضوعات متناقضة، قال المؤلف إنها تمثل تجارب مختزلة بهذه الأمثال، ,تبين مواقف مرت بها الحياة بدمشق على مدى أزمان متراخية.
وأخيراً فأمثال الكتاب مكتوبة باللغة العامية المحكية، ومشكولة كذلك ليلفظها كما تلفظ بها أهلها.
وقد بين المؤلف غرضه من ذلك في المقدمة، محذراً من استعمال العامية في الكتابة أو الكلام.. وجعل الغرض من ذلك في هذا الكتاب محصوراً بدراسة اللغة.
