تتمحور هذه الدراسات في الحدث التشكيلي الفلسطيني، حيث يتركّب الحدث من الأفعال التعبيرية المختلفة التي تشير إلى الواقع الفلسطيني خارج فعل الإشارة ذاته. ويتشكّل هذا الواقع صورةً ومعنًى عبر الإشارة إليه، ومن هنا تشكيليّة الحدث. يمتدّ الواقع، زمنًا، من الفقدان الأوّل الذي نتج عن حرب 1948، إلى كلّ الأزمنة اللاحقة إلى يومنا هذا. هذه الأزمنة اللاحقة تُكرِّر لحظة "الفقدان الأولى" بطرق عدّة، وذلك أنّ التناقض الأساس في شكله كفقدان أول لم يُحَلّ بعد. من هنا، كانت نقطة الانطلاق في مقدمة هذا الكتاب من خلال تحديد ملامح الأسلوب الفلسطينيّ كحركة بين "الشيء" وَ"فقدان الشيء". فنرى مثلاً أنّ بنية السرد الفلسطينية هي على الشكل التالي: كان لنا وطن، في لحظة زمنيّة (تتوجت في عام 1948) فقدنا فيها الوطن، الآن الممتدّة منذ ذلك الحين هي حالة الفقدان للوطن. وتشير الدراسات المختلفة في هذا الكتاب إلى أنّ هذه الحركة، عقب تراكم التكرار الذي تتوّج بأوسلو، كحدث مفصليّ، تعرّضت إلى تحوّل أساسي مُفادُه أنّ الشيء الفلسطيني أصبح "فقدان الشيء"، بينما أصبح فقدان الشيء "فقدان فقدان الشيء". فتكرار "الفقدان" أصبح العلامة الفارقة لما هو الشيء الفلسطيني، وبما أنّ بنية النظام الاستعماري لم تتغيّر، جرى العمل على تفكيك هذه السمة الأساسيّة "الفقدان" لتُفقَد مِن ثَمّ هي بذاتها. فالفقدان الأول الذي حصل عام 1948، هو جزء من العملية الاجتماعية التاريخية، والتي ناضل الفلسطينيون عبر أسلوبهم الأوّل، الحركة بين "الشيء" وَ "فقدان الشيء"، لاستعادة ما فُقِد. فشِل هذا المسعى لدرجة أنّنا لم نعد نستطيع حمل الفقدان ذاته فأجهضناه -إن جاز هذا التعبير الأسود-. بذلك خرجنا من التاريخ إلى الأسطورة، حالة فقدان الفقدان، وهذه بِدَوْرها لا تؤدّي إلى العودة السويّة للتاريخ، بل تؤدّي إلى الوقوف فيه ناظرًا إليه من خارجه. يصبح سؤالنا الآن حول ما يلي: كيف يعمل هذا الأسلوب الفلسطيني الجديد "فقدان فقدان الشيء"؟
