الأطفال والرجال الذين يواجهون غطرسة العدو الصهيوني، بحجارتهم وزجاجاتهم الحارقة في الأرض الفلسطينية المحتلة، تقف وراءهم نسائهن أمهات وزوجات وشقيقات، يعانين ما لم يعانه أي كائن آخر، فتتصدع عواطفهن وتًدمي قلوبهن وتسفح أعينهن دموعاً كثيرة. إن أحداً لم يذكر معاناة المرأة الفلسطينية، ألام والزوجة والشقيقة في هذه التجربة الرهيبة، فلهنّ كانت هذه القصص الاثنتا عشر التي يدون فيها "عوض شعبان" معاناتهم النفسية والاجتماعية، وآلامهن ما يدون فيها تحدي الطفل العربي الفلسطيني لجبروت الاحتلال الصهيوني وقهره له بسلاح هو من صنع الطبيعة يجرح ولا يقتل، يؤذي ولا يميت "الحجر".
هذه القصص الإثنتا عشرة التي كتبها عوض شعبان بقلبه لا بقلمه إسترجاع للذاكرة العربية في أروع شحناتها: الإنتفاضة... حيث تحدث إرادة الطفل العربي الفلسطيني جبروت الإحتلال الصهيوني، وقهرت سلاحه الغادر.
يلتزم عوض شعبان في كتابته الروائية والقصصية همّ الإنسان العربي في مواجهة القهر والإحتلال، ويدين كل أساليب التعدي على كرامته. وفي هذه القصص التي يتناول فيها الإنتفاضة الفلسطينية التي بهرت العالم وكان أبطالها أطفالاً وحجارة، إنما يؤكد فيها أن الإنسان مهما كان عمره، صغيراً أم كبيراً، إذا أراد الوقوف بوجه العدوان فإنه يفعل المعجزات.
وهل هناك معجزة تضاهي معجزة حجر في يد طفل يواجه بها دبابات العدو، معجزة أدهشت العالم وأكدت أن الشعب الفلسطيني لن يموت، وأنه سينال حقه آجلاً أم عاجلاً، مستعيداً أرضه السليب بالحجارة والسكين والبندقية.
