ثلاث سنوات سبقت منتصف التسعينيات الميلادية تخللتها تمهيدات جوهرية لستة أعوام بعدها، ففي تلك الحقبة اعتنق بطل الرواية "محمد" فكراً متجدداً ومشتتاً ومتقلباً، بل أقرب ما يكون إلى الهاوية.
إنه الخطأ في الإختيار والتوهان في التفكير والتوجس من التصرف؛ تاه عقله وقلبه بين مفترقات طرق بدأت من على خط أبيض ناصع وسُلِكَ به في إتجاهات ملونة بين السواد القاتم والأحمر المميت المتجه نحو عتبات التنظيم.
هي قصة تُعبر عن مئات الشباب الذين غُرِّر بهم تجاه أفكار متطرفة، فهي واقع وخيال والشخصيات فيها تتراوح بين الملموس وشبه المجرد، ربما يكون بعض الأبطال "أشباحاً" تتراءى للمنعزل رغبةً في الجهاد وبعضها الآخر بلحم ودم.
أحداث بطل روايتي تشبه إلى حدٍ كبير سلسلة مراحل عِشتُهَا ضمن جيلٍ من المتأثرين بالأفكار المتطرفة التي ضُخّت طوال العقدين منذ بداية الثمانينات وآتت أقسى ثمارها مع بدء الألفية الجديدة وتحديداً بأحداث 11 (أيلول) سبتمبر.
هذه الرواية أوراق من سيرة شخص وأوراق من سيرة جيل.
