هذا الكتاب هو الجزء الثاني من شرح كتاب السيد الشهيد محمد محمد صادق الصدر الموسوم بـ (فقه الأخلاق)، وقد سبق للمؤلف تقديم الجزء الأول من شرح الكتاب تحت عنوان (الفقه الأخلاقي، نقد ثقافة الحشد والفضيلة الناقدة) والذي كان يشبه البيان التأسيسي للعلم الجديد الذي دشنه السيد الشهيد الصدر الثاني، وفيه مجمل القواعد الفكرية والمنهجية لمقاربة موضوع الفقه الإخلاقي والأخلاق الفقهية، وسوف يجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الموضوعات والقضايا ذات الهم المشترك في الفكر الإسلامي سواء أكانت في عصر الشهيد الصدر أو في عصرنا الحاضر.
يشتمل الكتاب على مجموعة مقالات ترتكز على مقاربة فلسفية –دينية، يناقش خلالها عبد اللطيف الحرز قضايا فلسفية وفقهية وعرفانية، تتعلق بمسألة التعددية الإنسانية والعقائد والأخلاق، والعمل الصالح ومراتب القرب الإلهي، والإمكان المفتوح للتغيير والتغيَر.
تحت عنوان (تحديث الذات) يعتبر عبد اللطيف الحرز أن النجاح في الحياة "... يعني أن تعمل، وأن تعمل يعني أن تكون لك قدرة على صناعة العلاقات الجيدة مع الآخرين، فليس ناجحاً من اغتنى بالمال أو العلم أو المنصب أو الجاه أو العبادة، ومن حوله أفواج من الكارهين والمبغضين والحاسدين والذامين والمنتظرين به كل بلية للشماتة أو التشفي. العمل الناجح يعني بناء علاقة إيجابية مع الذاكرة وقدرة الحفظ والتواضع للإعتراف بالخطأ وإعادة المحاولة مرة أخرى، وأن تكون لك توازناتك في الصمت وفي النطق، في الهدوء وفي الغضب، وفي السرية العلنية (وهذه كلها مراتب للنية)، فلا تكون جميع أوراقك مكشوفة على طاولة الصراع، فيخذلك الصديق قبل أن يضربك العدو(...)".
(العمل الناجح يبدأ بتفهم الآخرين ويمتد الى الانفتاح على كل تجربة ناجحة بغض النظر عن نية أصحابها اللاهوتية وانتمائهم الديني؛ فالاعتقاد أمر قلبي، فهو خاص بصاحبه، ولا يمكن أن يشاركه فيه غيره. أما التجربة الناجحة فهي أمر عملي ومشروع تطبيقي، يمكن الاستفادة منه ونقل خصائصه الإيجابية، ومن دون ذلك نقع في أوهام الهوية الصافية وخرافة العزلة الحضارية، وهي مجرد خداع نفسي وأكذوبة تاريخية، ولعبة من ألاعيب أصحاب السلطة السياسية والدينية، حيث إنه من دون وجود هوية صافية لا يكون ثمة معقولية أن يكون شخص ما أو طرف ما أو حزب ما، هو المُمثِّل والحارس والناطق الرسمي للهوية؛ فالهوية كائن مشترك صنعته تراكمات التجربة، وتداولات الخبرة).
