يناقش هذا الكتاب عملية ختان الاناث بوصفها عادة اجتماعية ترتبط بالسياسة الشرعية وما يترتب عليها من مصلحة او ضرر.
ويؤكد أن هذه العادة مخالفة لروح الاسلام نظرته للمرأة وحقوقها لكونها تؤدى الى الضرر والى فوات امر مطلوب شرعاً ومحل نقاش.
كما يكتشف بعدها الاجتماعى والثقافى عن كونها عادة متأصلة فى النفوس لها جذورها النفسية واحاطتها بهالة من الشائعات والكلام غير المنطقى او العلمى وال يناقش هذا الكتاب عملية ختان الاناث بوصفها عادة اجتماعية ترتبط بالسياسة الشرعية وما يترتب عليها من مصلحة او ضرر.

وأخيراً ملاحق تتضمن مناقشة بين الدكتور محمد سليم العوا والدكتور يحيى اسماعيل وتخريج بعض احاديث ختان الاناث.

هذا الأمر يحتاج إلى بيان علمي وطبي ومناقشة علمية، دون أي حساسية لهذه الدعاوي. وهذا ما نُقدمه في هذه الدراسة الموجزة، وينبغي أن نترك هذه الحساسية التي صاحبت هذا الاختلاف بين الآراء، والتلميح بالعمالة، والتآمر على الأسرة وتشجيع الفجور.. إلخ، لأن منطلقنا في هذا الأمر هو أيضا الحفاظ على الأسرة وعلى المرأة، وتفنيد المفاهيم المغلوطة في هذا الجانب.
ثم بعد ذلك هي مسئولية الأب عن ابنته، وما علينا إلا التوضيح والنصيحة، وأن يراجع نفسه جيدا لتجنب أي احتمال لإيذائها، خاصة أن جمهور الفقهاء يذهب إلى أنه ليس عليه إثم إذا لم يفعل وتركها دون ختان.
