هذا الكتاب قراءة للمجتمع العراقي في أدب فؤاد التكرلي، فهو لا يفوت فرصة الاستغراق في المشكلات المزمنة للمجتمع العراقي، ولا يني، مصحوبة بإلماعات وتفاصيل وحوادث ومشاهد روائية، من تحويل ذلك إلى تحليل مشكلات ذلك المجتمع. وجد علي حاكم صالح نفسه وعزلته (كتب الكتاب في الدنمارك)، وعجزه وغربته في مجتمعه اللااجتماعي في بغداد الثمانينيات والتسعينيات، مثلما وجد فؤاد التكرلي نفسه غريبا على مجتمعه اللااجتماعي في بغداد الخمسينيات، فكتب تلك الرواية ولم ينشرها إلا بعد خمسين عاما. هذا الوضع يثير سؤالين محددين؛ الأول: ألم يتغير ذلك المجتمع اللااجتماعي عبر نصف قرن من الزمان؟ والثاني: ألم يكن نفي الكاتب نفسه، طوعا أو كرها، نوع من الحل للخلاص من المجتمع اللااجتماعي؟ إن الكتابة الروائية التكرلية هي "كتابة انتهاكية"، لكنها أيضا "ترياق"، والكتابة النقدية لدى علي حاكم صالح كتابة تحليلية، وهي أيضا ترياق. وحين أنقذت الكتابة الروائية صانعها الروائي من مجتمعه اللااجتماعي في خمسينيات بغداد القاسية، أنقذت الكتابة النقدية صانعها الناقد من مجتمعين الاجتماعيين في الواقع، الأول هو المجتمع اللااجتماعي العراقي إبان الثمانينيات والتسعينيات، والثاني هو المجتمع الاجتماعي الدنماركي من العام 2000 حتى العام 2010، والعام الأخير هو عام عودة المؤلف إلى العراق.
