ليس ثمة مسافة فاصلة بين الشعر والكتابة عنه، ما من حيادية في هذا الموضوع، في أفق هذه الترسيمة يخوض الناقد "علي حاكم صالح" في الحديث عن الشاعرين الأصليين محمود البريكان وسركون بولص، فكل شاعرٍ منهما له فرديته، ولكن تظل فردية الشاعر الأصيل، كما الإنسان غير قابلة للتكرار، ولا الإستنساخ؛ ولان مبعث الكتابة عن هذين الشاعرين لدى علي حاكم صالح "الهوى الشخصي" هوى يدوم عبر حوار يتواصل طويلاً، ليصل من ثم إلى فهم الدلالات الضمنية لكل تجربة، والمشترك بينهما، برى المؤلف أن "ثمة تداخل إنساني وشعري مميز بين تجربتي البريكان وسركون، فهذان شاعران تجردا بكل إنسانية عن كل ما هو لا إنساني في بيئة ثقافية امتلأت بشعارات الأحزاب والأيديولوجيات، وتجرّدوا للعيش من أجل الشعر مهمةً نهائيةً. وأصالتهما لا تعود إلى جودة شعرهما، فهذا بحد صاته لا يمنح الشاعر مرتبة بين البشرـ بل تعود إلى أصالتهما هما بوصفهما عاشا متوافقين تماماً مع كا كتبناه(...)".
يتضمن هذا الكتاب مقالتين، أولاهما "في الطريق إلى البريكان"، كانت قد نشرت في كتاب "الشعرية المفقودة: دراسات وشهادات"، الصادر عن دار الجمل عام 2010، تحرير وتقديم الدكتور حسن ناظم، والمقالة الثانية "سركون بولص: ضيف المسافة"، وهي تنشر في هذا الكتاب للمرة الأولى، وكلتاهما تنتميان إلى التراث الرافديني مهد الشاعرين وينشغلان باليومي والحياتي، البريكان على طريقته في رؤية الكائن الإنساني على حافة العالم في مواجهة نفسه والوجود الغامض... وسركون المعذب بين مكانين، فقدهما معاً، وظل على الطريق يسترجع روائح أرضه ويقلب ما حوله نسخةً مشوهة لأصل مفقود، طريق مشرعة أبداً فلا تنتهي، طريق تنتصب على حافة العالم.
