يشتمل هذا العدد على رؤى تقويمية للأوضاع الاستراتيجية العالمية قام بها محللون بمعهد الدراسات الاستراتيجية في الكلية الحربية التابعة للجيش الأمريكي. وقد تمت دراسة مجمل الأوضاع في مختلف المناطق في العالم، بالإضافة إلى الوضع الداخلي في الولايات المتحدة في ضوء بعض المحددات التي لها تأثيرها في المصالح الأمريكية الحيوية والاستراتيجية، وفي الجيش الأمريكي. وأهم هذه المحددات على الصعيد الداخلي: 1) أمن الولايات المتحدة، 2) إحكام الرقابة على الإنفاق العسكري، 3) رفع الكفاءة والقدرة العسكرية الأمريكية، 4) الحفاظ على التفوق التقني والمعلوماتي. كما قام أحد المحللين بما يسمى "المراجعة الدفاعية الرباعية" وتقويم الهياكل البديلة للقوات الأمريكية. أما أهم القضايا الاستراتيجية الخارجية التي يعالجها المحللون فهي: 1) الوضع في أوربا، 2) الوضع في روسيا وكومنولث الدول المستقلة، 3) التحولات الجارية في أوربا الشرقيــة، 4) الوضع في البوسنة والهرسك، 5) الوضع في منطقة آسيا/المحيط الهادئ، 6) دور الولايات المتحدة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وجنوب غربي آسيا، 7) الأوضاع في جنوب الصحراء الأفريقية الكبرى، 8) الوضع في دول أمريكا اللاتينية.
