"هذا هو ثمن سهرة البارحة. شعرت بأوجاع أسفل الظهر: بلعت حبة بركسيدول. لم تخف الأوجاع. تناولت العشاء مع قدح نبيذ منزلي، متجاهلاً نصائح الطبيب، واستغرقت في النوم بوقت مبكر. رأيت نفسي داخل غيمة عملاقة. الأرض بساط شاسع مزركش. السقف سماوي اللون تتدلى منه مشكاة كالعرموط ومصابيح تتوهج بضياء ملون. كنت متكئاً مثل شهريار على وسائد وثيرة، تحيط بي حسان من جامايكا، برتغال، طوكيو، قوزاق، سمرقند، مالديف... ثمة غلام زنجي يحرك بلا توقف مهفة كجنح طاووس فوق رأسي. على المائدة جرار نبيذ كثيرة، طعام شهي تتصاعد منه أبخرة، توابل هندية وحلوى. كانت سارة تجلس القرفصاء بين آوازو رجل يغطي الصلعة بقلنسوة. أطلت غادة من خلف ستار قصب متقمصة دور شهرزاد، سمراء نحيفة الوسط، ثقيلة الردفين، تخفي الأنف بخمار موشى باللون الأزرق الفاتح، ترتدي فستاناً أبيض لا يتجاوز الورك، شعرها الأسود مجدول وينتهي بشريط على هيئة وردة حمراء. سجدت أمامي مرتين ونهضت: أمراً وطاعة مولاي..".
بين اليقظة والحلم تمضي أحداث هذه الرواية، والتي مسرحها مدينة السويد. حيث شاءت الصدف الجمع بين شخصيات شتى من جنسيات شتى ومشارب شتى. والروائي إلى هذا يحاول في حوارياته التي تجري بين هؤلاء تسليط الضوء على موضوع الانتماءات التي تلقي بذيولها على حياة الإنسان وحتى عند مغادرته لبيئته، لموطنه.
ففي هذا الرقص على الماء تشكل الأحلام الجزء الأهم من استرسالات الروائي الشاعر العراقي القادم إلى السويد هروباً من جحيم ما. وهي وعرة كما وصفها الروائي، ووعورتها تتجلى في رمزياتها ومشاهدها وأبعادها التي تمتد لتنال وبإطار نقدي قضايا اجتماعية عقدية سياسية لا تنتهي.
