"فتحت عيوني، أخرجت من جيب سترتي جواز السفر، ناولته إلى شرطي كان يقف عند باب حجرتي، فسأل بعدما قلب أوراقه: إلى أين؟ فيينا. ختم الجواز وأعاده لي، أغمضت عيوني ثانية وفكرت: سأكتب لأبي أنني الآن مثل قطار بعربة واحدة، تسيّره المصادفات على سكة متشابكة، معقدة، لا يستطيع الحياد عنها، لا تنتهي بمحطة أخيرة... وفجأة أخذ قطاري يجتاز بغداد على مهل، هتفت بدهشة وفرح وخوف (هذي بغداد). ثم لمحت رجلاً قريباً يرصد أبي وهو يهمس للعجوز الذي قابلته في مطعم محطة "براغ" (إنه في هذا القطار)... أسدلت ستارة النافذة بسرعة وحاولت النوم، فتوقف القطار بعدما أيقظني صرير عجلاته مختلطاً بصوت مسافر ينادي صديقه "هيا مارسيل، وصلت فيينا"... شعرت بالراحة والحزن معاً، كنت أحلم، لكنني تساءلت وأنا أدفع حقيبتي في قمر مكتظ بالمسافرين: أهرب من واقع اليقظة أم من أحلام المنام؟ إنهما متساويان في درجة إفزاعهما ولا منطقيتهما، وأنا في حالة هروب دائم من الأنين، أو من أحدهما إلى الآخر بالتعاقب... سأكتب هذا أيضاً لأبي.... كل الفلاسفة يكلمون أنفسهم هكذا؟!! التفت فوجدت خلفي صديقي كان يدرس معي الفلسفة في "براغ" هكذا يسكن الوطن في انحنائيات الروح ليشكل جغرافيتها ويسكنها مبعد، نأى قسراً عن وطنه، دون أن تنأى روحه وعقله عنه.
