كنت الوحيد ربما فى مصر الذى يحرص كثير من القراء والمواطنين حين يلتقون بى مصادفة أن يصافحونى بحرارة، يثنون علىَّ وعلى كتاباتى، ويسجلون إعجابهم بشجاعتى وبآرائى وأفكارى التى أنشرها فى الصفحة الأولى للجريدة، التى كنت أترأس تحريرها، ثم يؤكدون لى أنه لا فايدة! لم أكن أفهم هذا الحرص الشعبى على تثبيط همتى.. تماما كما لم أكن أعرف لماذا يقابلنى كثيرون عابرون فى طريق، أو فى ندوة أو من نافذة سيارة تمر بجوارى، أو على باب سينما، حيث يكتشفون وجودى بعد إضاءة القاعة، فيسألوننى بهمة طالب، وجد واضع أسئلة الامتحان فى وجهه: - هل تظن أن هناك أملا؟ أنا أكتب الآن عن تفاصيل عشتها بلا مبالغة مئات المرات على مدى ست سنوات منذ عام ٢٠٠٥ وحتى ظهيرة ٢٥ يناير ٢٠١١. كتبت أكثر من ألف مقال .. كل سطر فيها يقول للغرابة كل ما قاله الآخرون متأخرين جدا، وبعد سقوط الرئيس مبارك شخصا ونظاما! هذا الكتاب الذى بين يديك يحمل عددا من مقالاتى التي مثلت لي ولمصر الطريق إلى يناير. لقد كان الطريق إلى يناير طريقا طويلا لم أمش فيه وحدى طبعا!
