زعيم تاريخي تميز بشعبية طاغية من المحيط إلى الخليج اختارته مراكز البحوث الغربية كأحد أهم الشخصيات المائة التي أثرت في القرن العشرين، إنه جمال عبد الناصر مفجر ثورة يوليو في مصر ورائد القومية العربية في العصر الحديث. وبالرغم من مُضي أكثر من نصف قرن على قيام ثورة يوليو ونحـو تسعة وثلاثين عاماً على رحيله، فإنه يظل دائماً مثاراً للجدل والنقاش، فبينما يعتبره أنصاره ومحبوه أسطورة ويلقبونه بالزعيم الخالد والقائد الملهم وغيرها من الصفات المجيدة نجد خصومه ينتقدونه بشدة ويصفونه بالديكتاتور والطاغية. ومنذ رحيله عن عالمنا في 28 سبتمبر 1970م وحتى يومنا الراهن لا يزال الرجل يثير الجدل، ليس فقط بين العامة إنما بين المثقفين والباحثين. فظهرت العديد من الكتب التي تتحدث عنه بعضها تعظمه وتمجده .. والأخرى تذمه وتهجوه. واليسير منها اتسمت بالحيادية والموضوعية وفي خضم آلاف الكتب والبحوث والدراسات العربية والأجنبية التي صدرت عن حياة وفترة حكم جمال عبد الناصر، جاءت هذه الدراسة التاريخية المتواضعة لفترة حكم عبد الناصر في الفترة الممتدة من عام 1952 وهو عام قيام ثورة يوليو في مصر إلى عام 1967م وهو عام وقوع الهزيمة في الحرب مع إسرائيل أو ما عرف بالنكسة . وسبب وقوف الدراسة عند العام 1967 وعدم تناولنا السنوات الأخيرة من حياة عبد الناصر قبل وفاته (67-70) ، أن نكسة يونيو برأينا أجهضت المشروع الناصري
