يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة أوضاع عمان السياسية في عهد السلطان فيصل بن تركي (1913- 1888م)، وعلاقاته مع القوى الإستعمارية وتحديداً كل من بريطانيا وفرنسا، فمنذ إنتقال الحكم لفيصل بن تركي شهدت العلاقات العمانية - البريطانية توتراً كبيراً بسبب رغبة فيصل في التحرر من النفوذ، وتوجهه إلى توثيق العلاقات مع فرنسا رغبة منه في خلق توازن بين الدولتين الإستعماريتين.
لكن فيصل ظل يحاول التحرر من القيود البريطانية، فوافق في عام 1894م على إنشاء قنصلية فرنسية في مسقط، وزاد من تقاربه مع الفرنسيين نتيجة سخطه على تخلي بريطانيا عنه في ثورة القبائل الهناوية عليه سنة 1895 والتي تمكنت من إحتلال أجزاء من العاصمة.
وفي عام 1898م منح فيصل الفرنسيين إمتيازاً لإنشاء مستودع للفحم في منطقة بر الجصة، متجاهلاً بريطانيا، والتي تصدت له واعتبرت هذا الأمر خرقاً لمعاهدة عدم التنازل الموقعة بين الطرفين سنة 1891، وألا ستقوم بتوجيه ضربة عسكرية لعاصمته، ورضخ السلطان فيصل للمطالب البريطانية، وألغى الإمتياز الممنوح لفرنسا، ثم أمر رعاياه في مدينة صور بوقف إستخدام الأعلام الفرنسية، فتوترت العلاقات العمانية - الفرنسية، وإزداد النفوذ البريطاني في عمان، ونتيجة لفشل سياسة فيصل مع بريطانيا وضعف مركزه في البلاد، ثار العلماء على السلطان بعد أن قرر منع تجارة الأسلحة وقرروا خلعه من منصبه، وأعلن عن قيام الإمامة في عام 1913م بقيادة الإمام سالم بن راشد الخروصي والشيخ نور الدين السالمي، مدعومة من القبائل الهناوية والغافرية والتي كان لدعمها للإمامة الأثر البالغ في نجاحها، ولم يتمكن فيصل من التصدي للإمامة بسبب وفاته في إكتوبر من نفس العام.
