أثارت نكسة حزيران 1967 على مختلف الصعد, أحاديث شتى ودراسات مستفيضة تعرض لأسبابها ودوافعها, وتفصل القول في نتائجها ووقائعها. فقد كانت تعبيراً ضارياً وعنيفاً لهزيمة العديد من الأبنية السياسية والاجتماعية والثقافية التي كانت قائمة وضاربة الجذور في أعماق الحياة العربية. ولما كان المسرح أشد الفنون التصاقاً بحياة الشعوب, وأقدرها على التعبير عن مشاغله, وأوفرها اتصالاً بهمومه, ولعله بما يجسد من تعبير وتفكير ينهض بهما أشخاص من لحم ودم, يعيش مع الواقع أكثر مما تعيش سائر الفنون, ويحمل الناس على أن يحبوه من غير وهو أو تهويل. لذلك كانت علاقة المسرحية بالمجتمع طيلة العصور الأدبية المختلفة, علاقة إيجابية, فهي دائماً صورة للحياة الاجتماعية بكل قيمها وأفكارها, وما ساد فيها من فلسفات, وما جرى فيها من تغييرات. من هنا فإن المسرح لا يمكن له أن ينفصل عن قيم العصر الذي يعيش فيه, الفكرية والاجتماعية والنفسية والاقتصادية والسياسية, لأنه وإن كان عملاً فردياً فهو يصور الجماعة مدركاً لحركتها واعياً لمتطلباتها. ولعل أهمية هذه الدراسة هي في طموحها للكشف عن آثار نكسة حزيران على المسرحية العربية من حيث الشكل والمضمون. وكان من أهم المواضيع التي تناولها: اتجاهات المسرحية العربية قبل النكسة, المسرحية العربية والنكسة, التجاوز, أثر النكسة على البنية.
