صدرت هذه الرواية بالفرنسية تحت عنوان غاية في الاختصار "أم" وهو الاسم المعروف لأم كلثوم بفرنسا، مثل "ثومة" بالعالم العربي. ثم ترجمت إلي الإنجليزية، والإيطالية بعنوان "أحببتك لأجل صوتك" فيما قام بترجمتها الشاعر اللبناني الراحل بسّام حجّار بهذا العنوان "كان صرحًا من خيال" المأخوذ من قصيدة "الأطلال"، وهي إحدى أغنيات أم كلثوم القليلة التي لم يؤلفها أحمد رامي، الذي يمكن القول؛ إنه الشاعر الخصوصي لها، حيث كتب 137 أغنية من بين 383 أغنية، قدمتها في مشوارها الفنى.
استوحى أغلب أعماله من التاريخ العاطفي للشخصيات التاريخية من خلال موضوعه المفضل الغرام، لكن الغرام هنا عذري "ومن طرف واحد على ما يبدو" إذ تتناول الرواية غرام "رامي" بسيدة الغناء العربي، يحاول الكاتب على لسان "رامي" -الذى يبدو في حالة من العشق الصوفي- إحياء الحياة الأدبية والفنية، وتركيب تاريخ مصر منذ عام 1924، حتي عام 1975 "تاريخ وفاة أم كلثوم".
