«كلّ ما قد يُخفيه الصوت تطلقُه نظرةٌ واحدةٌ»، ومن «عين حمورابي» تنبعث نظراتٌ تتفجّر قصصًا بعضُها عند البطل حقيقةٌ وبعضُها وهمٌ، يفصل بينها خيطٌ رفيعٌ. فتراها تتداخل تداخلًا عجيبًا حتّى يذوب الصوت في صداه والوجه في قفاه، وتتشابك خيوط اللعبة سردًا مربكًا يسائل الإنسان فينا عن جدوى هذه الحياة، وعمّا إذا كان في وسعنا أن نكون بلا تاريخٍ وبلا ذاكرةٍ، أو أن نكون نحن وقد ضاعت أبعاضنا في دروب الوحوش البشريّة؟!
من داخل مكتب التحقيق يسافر بنا البطل في المكان والزمان فيتحوّل الهارب من الموت إلى مهرّب حكاياتٍ يُغوي المحقّق بفتنة السرد، تمامًا مثل شهرزاد، حتّى يؤجّل طوفان الغضب المنتظر خارج الثكنة وسَيْلَ اتّهاماتٍ لا يعرف حقيقتها، بل يتحوّل من هاربٍ من الموت إلى سائرٍ إليه بإرادته.
لقد ردّه الموت مرارًا حين سار إليه، ودفعه دفعًا إلى الحَفر في تاريخٍ فرديٍّ طمسته ذاكرةٌ معطوبةٌ وتاريخٍ جماعيٍّ يحاول هذا إنقاذَه من أيدي العابثين ويتجاهله آخر فيراه تافهًا أمام سطوة المال. وحسنًا فعل الموت، فقد فتح لنا من لذّة القصّ ما قد يُنسي الإنسان بعض أوجاع التاريخ.
يجدر الإشارة أن هذه الرواية قد وصلت إلى القائمة الطويلة للجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية للعام 2021.
