Book Description
"كانا يتجاوران وراء الإمام في صلاة الجمعة، وقد ظنّ الولدُ دائماً أنّ قلب أبيه يدقّ قلبه كلّما تلامسا بالمصادفة في والركوع والسجود. في كلّ مرّة كان يشعر بشدّة فرحه به، هو كبيرة عبد الهادي، مصليّاً إلى جانبه أمام خلق الله. والدقّات نفسها كان يراها تلتمع في عينيه كلّما طمأنه أنّه، بعد البكالوريا، سيحقّق له أمنيته ويدرس الصيدلة. وكان أبوه، منذ بلغ عبد الهادي الثامنة من عمره، قد قرأ، بحضور شيخ وشهود، فاتحةَ زواجه من بديعة-صُغرى بنات صديقه وجاره في سوق الحميدية، فنَعِما لسنواتٍ طويلةٍ بامتيازات زوجين قاصرين عفيفين ومدلّلين. كانا، كلّما التقيا، يقلّد معها وقارَ أبيه وتقلّد معه حياءً أمّها، وأهلوهما يسترئونهما عروسين من قطن وقماش على حدٍّ ساحرٍ بين الجدّ واللعب".
في حفل عقد قرانه على امرأة انتظرته سنين طويلة، يقرّر، في اللحظة الأخيرة قبل وصول القاضي، الهربَ من المبتهجين به والمبتهجات. ثم يعيش في يومٍ وليلةٍ قصة حبٍّ عاصفةً مع امرأة أخرى يتكشّف في أثنائها عالمه الفاجع المضطرب، وحاجتُه المستعصية العذبة والمريرة إلى أن يحدّد ما يريد وما لا يريد.
