تُعدّ نظريّة التوصيل إحدى أهمّ النظريّات الحديثة في الساحة النقديّة، وتأتي أهميّتها من إخراجها الخطاب الأدبيّ من الدائرة المغلقة التي أدخلته فيها المناهج الشكليّة، والبنيوّية، إلى الأفق المفتوح لتلقّي الآثار الأدبيّة، لأنّها لفتت النظر إلى دور المتلقّي في عمليّة التفاعل الأدبيّ. وتتّصف بأنها تأخذ في الحسبان كلّ الأطراف الداخلة في العمليّة الإبداعيّة من أجل إنتاج الخطاب الروائيّ وتلقّيه؛ فهي تهتمّ بالمبدع (الروائيّ)، وبالنصّ (الرواية)، وبالمتلقّي (القارئ) الذي يُوجّه إليه الخطاب، وذلك يجعل الخطاب الروائيّ أفقًا مفتوحًا للتأويل، وقد اتّخذنا هذه النظرية منهجًا لتحليل نماذج من الخطاب الروائيّ العربي لاعتقادنا أنّ ذلك الخطاب يقوم بتمثيل الأحوال الاجتماعيّة والثقافيّة الحاضنة له، مما يستدعي متابعة كيفيّات إنتاجه، ووصفه، وتلقّيه.
