وبما أن نظرية التوصيل تقوم على ثالوث متكامل، وهو المرسل والرسالة والمتلقي، فقد سعت الدكتورة أسماء معيكل إلى دراسة ذلك الثالوث، في الخطاب الروائي العربي، في الربع الأخير من القرن العشرين، من أجل تبيان طبيعة الخطاب، وطبيعة الوظائف التي ينهض بها: من دون إهمال البنى النصية التي حملت تلك الوظائف، بل شكلتها بما ينسجم والرسالة المراد إيصالها إلى الملتقى.
ولا شك في أن هذا الكتاب من المحاولات التطبيقية الجادة والرائدة في بابها عربياً. فهو يسير في طريق ما يزال بحاجة إلى تمهيد، ويتطلع إلى أفق ما يزال بحاجة إلى توضيح ولعلّ أهمية هذا الكتاب تكمن في ذلك تحديداً، أكثر مما تكمن في بعض الآراء أو الأحكام النقدية حول هذه أو تلك من الروايات أو الخصائص السردية.
وقد اتسم الكتاب بسمات الموضوعية والمنهجية في الأعمّ الأغلب، من دون أن ينفي ذلك ما هو ذاتي. ولا أعتقد أن ثمة إمكانية في الاستغناء عما هو ذاتي في النقد الأدبي. ولكن على أن نفهم الذاتية، هنا، بمعنى القدرات والمهارات الخاصة في اكتشاف النص وجمالياته، وفي التطبيق المتميّز للأسس النظرية والمنهجية في الوقت نفسه.
