"تتحدث هذه الرواية عن آمنة التي تجد في دافيد سر حياتها. فهي سيدة عراقية أرملة في الخمسين من عمرها تعيش في هولندا، أما دافيد فهو هولندي في السبعين من عمره يعاني من الوحدة بعد وفاة زوجته العراقية سلمى التي التقاها في لندن، وقد تغيرت حياته كلياً معها، ولم يعد بإمكانه الحياة من دونها. فينهي حياته انتحاراً، وعن طريق بعض أغراضه التي تُرمى في الشارع تتعرف آمنة على قصته، لكنها تتعرف في الوقت ذاته على نفسها. وتكتشف ماضيها من جديد، حتى تتخذ قراراً بالعودة النهائية إلى بلدها.
أما الشريف الرضي فهو الخيط الخفي الذي يربط حياة بطلي الرواية، بل جميع شخوصها ومن خلال قصائده سنمر بجميع المحاور التي تناقشها الرواية برشاقة وعمق يميزان أسلوب ميادة خليل الدرامي والمتدفق. ومعها سنعيد اكتشاف أفكار عديدة مثل فكرة الموت، والحرب وآثارها على شخصية الإنسان، وارتباط الإنسان بذكرياته التي تتقدم معه في العمر وتعود معه للبحث عن الوطن، أو ربما فكرة الوطن التي لا علاقة لها بالمكان، وربما أيضاً فكرة الهروب الى عالم أفضل."
