الإِسْكَافُ واحدُ الأَساكِفَةِ،وهو:كلُّ صانِعٍ عند العربِ أَيّاً كان،وعن أبي عُبَيد عن الأحمر :الإِسْكافُ الصَّانِعُ، كذا بإطلاق.وفيه لُغاتٌ:إِسْكَافٌ بالكسر،وأُسْكُوْفٌ بالضَّمِّ،وأَسْكَفٌ بالفتح،وسَكَّافٌ كشَدَّاد،وسَيْكَفٌ كصَيْقَل.لكن،قال الجوهريّ:(وقولُ مَن قالَ:كلُّ صانِعٍ عندَ العربِ إِسْكَافٌ فغيرُ مَعرُوفٍ) .
وخَصَّه بعضُهم عند الإطلاق ب(الخَرَّاز)،وهو صانِعُ الخِفافِ والأَحذِيَة ومُصْلِحُها ...
