فارا من مراكش بعد أن قتل والده والدته، راح الإسكافي "إيض" -بطل الرواية- يتنقل من قرية إلى قرية، ومن مدينة إلى مدينة، مسافراً جنوبا حتى الحدود المغربية الموريتانية، حاملاً عدته التي يرقع بها أحذية الناس. بعد عام عاد أدراجه متجها شمالا، لكن من الواضح أن رحلته نحو الجنوب لم تنته حتى ذلك الحين، فلقد التقى ساحرا في إحدى القرى التي مر عليها وهو راجع أخذ يصلح له حذاءه فطلب منه مر فارا من مراكش بعد أن قتل والده والدته، راح الإسكافي "إيض" -بطل الرواية- يتنقل من قرية إلى قرية، ومن مدينة إلى مدينة، مسافراً جنوبا حتى الحدود المغربية الموريتانية، حاملاً عدته التي يرقع بها أحذية الناس. بعد عام عاد أدراجه متجها شمالا، لكن من الواضح أن رحلته نحو الجنوب لم تنته حتى ذلك الحين، فلقد التقى ساحرا في إحدى القرى التي مر عليها وهو راجع أخذ يصلح له حذاءه فطلب منه مرافقته لاستخراج كنز يقع في مكان قريب من قريته بأقصى الجنوب كان عبارة عن قارورة تحتوي على شراب عجيب، غير أن هذا الساحر خدعه فحصل على الكنز واختفى فيما لم يحصل هو منه إلا على اللعنة، هذه اللعنة التي آذته وآذت أعز الناس إليه حبيبته حليمة.
